Our department is committed to your success. We have three goals for all of our microbiology minors.

Acquire, articulate, retain and apply specialized language and knowledge relevant to microbiology.

The wide selection and variety of courses available to you as a microbiology minor, spanning microbial aspects of food, water, disease and the environment, will expose you to the specialized language and knowledge you will need in your career after graduation.

Acquire and demonstrate competency in laboratory safety and in routine and specialized microbiological laboratory skills applicable to microbiological research or clinical methods, including accurately reporting observations and analysis.

We want you to be prepared to work in a lab after you graduate. Your participation in a microbiology laboratory will allow you to gain a better understanding of the microbiological laboratory techniques available and how they are used, as well as information about laboratory safety.

Communicate scientific concepts, experimental results and analytical arguments clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Clear and accurate science communication, both to scientists and to the public, influences many different areas in the field of microbiology. With the microbiology minor, you will have opportunities to practice this.
